A first-line therapy with cisplatin and etoposide was administered to half the patients; the other half received carboplatin in place of cisplatin, with concurrent administration of etoposide. The outcomes for patients receiving cisplatin or carboplatin schedules were strikingly consistent, indicating similar values in ORR (44% vs. 33%), DCR (75% vs. 70%), PFS (60 months vs. 50 months), and OS (130 months vs. 10 months).
