“Objective Many of Australia’s rural hospitals operate without an on-site pharmacist. Methods Semistructured one-on-one interviews were conducted with rural pharmacists with experience in a sessional employment role (n=8) or who were seeking sessional arrangements (n=4). Participants were identified via publicity and referrals. Interviews were conducted via telephone or Skype for similar to 40-55min each, recorded and analysed descriptively.

Results A shortage of state funding and reliance on federal funding was reported. Pharmacists accredited to provide medication reviews claimed remuneration via these federal schemes; however, restrictive criteria limited their scope of services. Funds pooling to subsidise remuneration for the pharmacists was evident and arrangements with local community pharmacies provided business frameworks to support sessional services. Conclusion Participants were unaware of each other’s models of practice, highlighting the need to share information and these findings. “The prevalence of obesity in patients with haemophilia (PWH) is increasing. We investigated the effect of obesity on bleeding frequency and clotting factor concentrate (CFC) usage in PWH and assessed whether prothrombotic changes observed in obesity differ between controls and PWH. Number of bleeds and CFC usage were compared between obese (N=51) and non-obese (N=46) haemophilia A patients. Markers of haemostasis and fibrinolysis were compared between PWH, and gender-, age- and body mass index (BMI)-matched non-haemophilic controls (N=91). Median number of bleeds/patient-month was comparable between obese and non-obese patients with severe haemophilia (P=0.791). Obese patients with severe haemophilia used 1.4 times more CFC/patient-month than non-obese patients (P=0.036). When adjusting for weight this difference disappeared (P=0.451).

“We still lack full mechanistic understanding of how the temperature history affects the future decomposition rate of litter and soil organic matter. To explore that, we used the GLUE modelling framework together with the Q-model and data from a needle litter incubation experiment to compare a differential temperature response of litter qualities to a temperature-dependent decomposer efficiency. The needle litter incubation

was a full factorial design with the initial and final temperatures 5, 15 and 25 degrees C. Samples were moved from the initial to the final temperature when approximately 12% of the initial carbon had been respired and the experiment terminated when an additional 12% had been lost. We used four variations of the Q-model; the litter was described as having one or two initial quality values and the decomposer efficiency was either fixed or allowed to vary with temperature.
